Presser had his third career start and won very impressively in the 1600m maiden by 4.3 lengths. In what looked like good speed in the race, jockey Declan Bates was able to posy up midfield with cover. He managed to find such a good spot that he kept the favourite out three wide and working hard.

Coming to the 600m mark Declan got the horse out in plenty of time and he worked through his gears really well. In the straight Presser was off and gone and while it was a comfortable margin, Declan felt the horse wanted to switch off and he had to keep his mind on the job. You can see Declan looking back in the photo at the rest of the pack.

Trainer, Archie Alexander was delighted with the 3YO gelding and he will now head to Ballarat over 2000m in a couple of weeks and the dream of the SA Derby is well and truly alive.
