It was a big weekend for RTD owners in Tasmania on Sunday with Elton’s Song and Benny Goes Berzerk running at Devonport. In consecutive races over a 40 minute period, Elton’s Song won impressively by 4.5 lengths over 1350m and Benny Goes Berzerk go up in the last bound to score an impressive win also over 1350m.

Elton’s Song finally jumped well from the barrier and put himself right on the speed to sit just behind the leader. Off a genuine tempo jockey Chris Graham got going around the 600m and allowed Elton to stride along and take up the running coming to the turn. As they straightened Graham went for him and he careered away like a good horse. We certainly learnt a lot from his run and while trainer Adam Trinder talked him up on Friday in that he worked with Mystic Journey and held his own, we needed to see him do it on raceday. Lets hope jumping and sitting on pace has worked him out and we can get a few wins on the board with the the son of Your Song gelding.

In a contrasting race to Elton’s Song. Benny Goes Berzerk was coming off a little break and relocation to the Tassie stables of Adam Trinder. In what looked a tricky race on paper and a slight drop to 1350m we were hoping for a hot speed in which Benny could accelerate off and finish strongly over the top of them. Unfortunately the race didn’t pan out like that and he was held up a number of times coming into the straight. He gained clear air 150m out and he hit the strongly for a very narrow win. It was a very good win and Adam is keen to stretch Benny out and step him up over the coming weeks.

The decision to experiment and refresh the careers of some of our RTD horses and put them in the care of master trainer and real horseman Adam Trinder is certainly paying off. We have sent 4 horses to Adam over the last couple of months and every horse has won a race, including Ocean Essence who went to Tassie under the licence of Archie Alexander but will now be trained by Adam. RTD are keen to keep the relationship going with Adam and look forward to purchasing a yearling and syndicating it with Adam at the Tasmanian Magic Millions sale in February 2020.
