2019/20 season in review

Overall it was a great season again for RTD, and leading into February/March we were heading for our best season yet. Enter COVID-19 and it seemed to put the breaks on our momentum, and we really struggled for the latter part of the year. Luck comes and goes in racing, and that’s why you need to ride the wave of success – when it dries up it can feel like a drought.

Highlights for the year obviously included the stakes wins of La Falaise winning a Group 2 on Cox Plate Day, He’ll Haunt Us winning at Magic Millions, and again in the Group 3 Zeditave Stakes, and finally the return of Krone to win a Listed race and place several times at Group 2 and 3 level.

As the table below also shows, we had a huge amount of seconds, thirds and fourths, and with a bit more luck across the board that 11.8% winning strike rate could have been a lot higher. Likewise stakes places and another fourth in a Group 1 was frustrating, but as they say in the classics, “that’s racing”.

With a great band of new horses coming through including twenty 2YO’s and six unraced 3YO’s, the future is certainly looking bright. The retirement of some of our favourites to stud was satisfying but emotional for us all, but we are super excited to put at least half of 2020 away and start the new season with a bang (or boom).

Although not all horses reach their anticipated potential, we also want to give a shout out to our loyal owners who continue to show their support for their horses and us each week. We hope that we can still make your experience of horse ownership the best one possible.

And lastly, we want to thank all of you for your support during 2019/20 season, and we look forward to winning many more races with you next year.

Giddy up!
Rob, Steve, and Leigh
