Wow, what a start for the team in 2022/23! While we’ve only had four runners for the month, we have had two winners and two seconds so the strike rate is bang on. It goes to show that we, along with our trainers, are selecting the right horses for the right races. Let’s hope the run continues as we continue to unearth new talent to the track along with a couple of well credentialed horses nearing their return for the spring.

On Thursday Anahita made her debut in the RTD colours, as did trainer Matt Laurie. She debuted at Echuca in an 1100m maiden for fillies and while we liked what we had seen with her, we thought she may have been looking for 1200m first up. You could imagine our surprise when she got the perfect run in behind the leaders, peeled off their backs at the top of the straight, and went straight past them at the 100m for an impressive debut win. Matt Laurie was very happy with her performance, and she is a filly we think can get out over further and she didn’t feel comfortable in the really heavy conditions. There is a bit of upside with this filly and she will keep improving with racing.
