The Magic Millions Broodmare Sale was conducted during the week and again there were record numbers for breeders acquiring quality mares with good pedigrees and black type to their name. It was the big boys who splashed out, Yulong and Coolmore to name a few, adding more stakes winning fillies to their broodmare band as they try to corner the market by having the best bred yearlings at all sales in years to come.
What’s that got to do with us? Broodmare value in a declining market ensures the industry is strong and the longevity and residual value of fillies is assured. Buying a filly that wins in town, or a listed or Group 3 race will have more residual than a colt or gelding. A colt will need to win at least a Group 1 or more to be assured of a stallion career post racing. A filly doesn’t have to reach the top to have residual. Check out some of the results below to see what we are talking about.

What to do?
This is why we buy colts and fillies at yearling sales. Many bloodstock agents and buyers only want colts, but you are narrowing the pool of nice horses, not to mention being discriminatory to the ladies, who as you can see command out of this world prices post their racing careers, and hey they are often better value at the sales because they are fillies. If you want a reminder of our fillies that have limited shares available, check out the details below. All are by Group 1 producing stallions in Written Tycoon, the Autumn Sun and Star Turn, and these stallions are very well received when their daughters go through the ring after their racing careers are over.
