What a weekend for the RTD and the Price/Kent Team to pull of a heist and win the Group 1 Might and Power Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday. While we were considered the third banana behind the more fancied Treasurethe Moment and Buckaroo, someone forgot to send Blake Shinn the memo and he owned the race from the start.
Blake rode the 7YO gelding to perfection, while we didn’t go out too hard from the gates, his second and third furlong up the hill and down wind was very solid. Coming to the 1000m, Blake put the breaks on and we got two very cheap sectionals and by the 600m it was go time. All 3 contenders were within a length of each other on the turn and that’s when Globe dug deep and wouldn’t allow the other two to get past. He even ran away from them to win by 3 lengths.
While the owners partied into the night winning a Group 1, the dust has now settled and its decision time as to whether we push on to a Cox Plate and pay the late entry fee of $200k or race onto the Champions Stakes on the last day of the Flemington Carnival. Lots of decisions to make and good problems to have after the weekends celebrations.
Congrats to all of Globe’s loyal owners, we always thought he had Group 1 ability and perhaps thought we may not get one, racing is a funny game and anything can happen and it did on the weekend.
